Vitalik Buterin has proposed a radical modernization of the Ethereum virtual machine - a switch to the RISC-V architecture. According to him, this could be the key to a serious increase in network efficiency.

This transition will help solve the L1 scaling problem, increase competition between miners and improve support for ZK-EVM, while compatibility with smart contracts will be preserved - developers will continue to write on Solidity and Vyper.

Leading venture capitalist Adam Cochran recognized the idea's potential for mainstream networks, but expressed doubts about its priority: the transition costs may be too high and the benefits to L2 may be limited.

Meanwhile, fees on Ethereum have fallen to a new low - for example, users pay an average of just $0.03 for a USDT transfer. At the same time, some L2 networks now have higher commissions than the main Ethereum network.
